Creative Thinking and the Power of Concentration

Power of Concentration Insight IntuitionMy experience this week really brought home to me the problem solving power of intention and concentration of thought.. I wrote about overcoming difficulties by applying creative thinking to solving problems on my Master Key Blog. Here I want to focus more on the power of concentration.

All that’s required is a clear understanding of the problem to be solved (intention) and then absolute and prolonged concentration of thought on the problem to the exclusion of all else. This is not the day dreaming sort of “lost in thought” condition you may drift into from time to time.

This kind of focused attention and concentration really can produce some quite unusual results. Let me illustrate with a problem I grappled with this week.

I was attempting to extract the name and email of all new customers from notifications I received from the owner of an affiliate program I promote. I want to do this automatically so I can move customers to a new list. and take them off the prospect list on which they currently reside.

If you’ve ever made an online purchase you will understand why I really don’t want to continue to send messages to my customers about purchasing something they’ve already bought. It’s neither polite nor good business practice.

This can be done manually but when you have lots of sales it quickly becomes a big problem to get it done and the customer information recorded properly. It’s very easy if the affiliate program integrates with Aweber through an API, but that is more the exception than the norm.

In my case the program does have the option of automatic integration with my email marketing service (Aweber). But to access that feature was only gonna require that I cough up $3,000.00 US to upgrade! The good thing is they do notify me and provide the name and email of the customers who purchase using my link.

The Power of Concentration In Action

I had just enough knowledge to know that to extract the information I wanted from the notifications I had to create a script using regex (regular expressions). Once I had the name and email I could enter them into a customer list on Aweber. This is called parsing and the “program” I was trying to write is called a parser.

The Power of Concentration ParserThe parser is really just a set of rules (the scripts) that tells the program how to scan an email and recognize a series of characters as either a name of an email address. Such a program can be used to extract all kinds of information but the name and email are what I was after.

So there’s one rule for the name and another rule for the email. It’s quite a satisfying and almost magical feeling when you run a message through this program and see the expected results printed for you. But getting to that stage pushed me to apply the power of concentration and come up with some creative thinking.

The problem is I was unfamiliar with regex and I am not a programmer. I was given some rudimentary instructions and a script that should identify and extract emails in a wide variety of formats. I was pretty much on my own with respect to customer names.

Another problem was determining how the scripts actually worked with the Aweber parser formats. To top it all of, the provided email script (rule) did not work, nor did various others I found by doing a search online.

I felt like the blind leading the blind so I put out a call for Fiverr Gigs. That was several days ago. I got no takers. If it was gonna get done I was going to have to do it.

I Apply the Power of Concentration

I did some research into the language and syntax of regular expressions. I did searches on Bing and Google asking questions about regular expressions, regex, email extraction, name extraction, Aweber and as many combinations as I could think of.

My intention was to solve this problem and I brought the awesome power of concentration and very focused attention to bear.

I had just been through the Master Key Experience and I knew that as Haanel said, “…. true
conceptions are only secured by spiritual insight. This insight requires a quickening of the vibrations of the Mind, and is only secured when the mind is continuously concentrated in a given direction.“(The Master Key Part 17-3).

Haanel goes on to indicate that real concentration requires and unbroken flow of thought only obtained with patience and persistence. For example he indicates great discoveries in mathematics are the result of continuous investigation and concentrated effort.

I certainly wasn’t aiming at a major discovery, but I sure was focused on the problem at hand with the intention of solving it.

Invoke Intuition and Insight

I knew that when you concentrate as I did on a specific problem, you call upon the limitless resources available to the subconscious mind. And I also believe when you are totally engrossed in a problem so that you are conscious of nothing else, you can draw upon powerful intuition and insight.

As Haanel says “If you concentrate on some matter of importance, the intuitive power will be set in operation…” (The Master Key Part 17-22) and “Intuition arrives at conclusions without the aid of experience or memory. Intuition often solves problems that are beyond the grasp of the reasoning power. Intuition often comes with a suddenness that is startling;” (Part 17-23).

I was not successful on day one. But I was totally focused on the problem. I lost track of time and was surprised at how late it was when I came up for air.

I Let the Subconscious Work Overnight

When I got to my desk the next day was immediately engrossed with it again, despite the fact I had other things I felt I should be doing. To my amazement I got the email script working very quickly.

It didn’t take long before I was making progress with the name extraction rule or script. The right questions to ask popped into my mind as I did a Google search and within a short time I had it done.

SUCCESS! Persistence, intention and the power concentration produced the results I sought. There was nothing momentus but the power of concentration to draw out the intuition and insight needed was clearly evident.

Thought is Mind In Motion. It is creative and governed by natural laws in the same way as are gravity and electricity. This simple example demonstrates this truth.

Do I fully understand regex and parsers? Do I know exactly how I did this? No! But I do know that the power of concentration, especially concentrated thought, will make that happen if ever necessary.
