Emotions Are Powerful Tools

Use Fear To Drive Toward Your Purpose

Haanel opens Part Twenty-Two with an analogy between the disease conditions caused by the accumulation of waste material in the cell as it lives and grows, and the effects of negative thoughts and emotions upon our physical and mental well being . The first time through this lesson last year I focused my thoughts on the effects of emotions on health and the curious Placebo Effect. This time I concentrate more on the fact emotions are powerful tools we can use.

Not only do negative thoughts and emotions prevent us from achieving our goals and purpose in life, they clearly manifest themselves in the occurrence of various physical and mental disturbances and disease conditions.

Coincidentally I am reading The Scroll Marked VI in Og Mandino’s “The Greatest Salesman In The World“. There I read “Today I will be master of my emotions” and “Weak is he who permits his thoughts to control his action; strong is he who forces his actions to control his thoughts“.

At first this statement from Og seems contradictory to all we know about the power of our thoughts. But it actually makes sense because what he is talking about are the negative thoughts and emotions such as fear, unworthiness, anger (depression), guilt and feelings of inferiority. The point is we must recognize these emotions and turn them to our advantage by forcing our actions to counter their negative effects.

Emotions Are Powerful Tools

The webinar for this week focused on how we can take advantage of the emotions of fear, anger, unworthiness, guilt and hurt feelings to carry us forward in our personal Hero’s Journey. Fear is an awesome tool that can energize and focus our attention on what we really want.

Anger has tremendous energy which can concentrate our actions on making changes in what we are and do that will carry us forward. Guilt just reminds us we know what we have to do to become the person we intend to become and hurt feelings just makes us realize how much we care about our life and those people who are part of it.

These are superb tools that if picked up and used can take us through the Hero’s Journey. And that is eloquently portrayed by Joseph Campbell in The Power of Myth, The Masks of God, The Hero With A Thousand Faces and many more books, articles and teachings Campbell produced as he followed his Bliss. What a remarkable example of someone who recognized what he wanted to do at a young age. Even more notable is that he pursued his dream- followed bis Bliss- never wavering from the path, throughout his life.
