Any Business Is About Connecting and Building Relationships

Back in the nineties…. almost ancient history now, anyone involved in a legitimate business from home talked to real people. It was a “belly to belly get to know your customers and look after them” operation. Building relationships and developing trust was essential and the norm.

Building RelationshipsSame thing with building a team if your business was network marketing. Anyone worth a damn really helped their recruits get off to a fast start and made sure they were ready to do the same with their recruits before turning them loose.

Too bad there were so few that were worth a damn. But I guess you couldn’t blame them. Nobody showed them how to do that.

People Don’t Join Because of the Plan Product or Company

Telling people to make a list of everyone you know, invite them to a meeting and cram the company, the product and the compensation plan  down their throats was Asinine! And it still is. Nobody gave a shit about that stuff then and they still don’t.

Just watch their eyes glaze over as the slick PowerPoint flashes up there on the screen and you’ll know YOU missed the point.

What they are interested in is WHAT IT and YOU CAN HELP THEM IMPROVE IN THEIR LIFE! Telling them they can make over a $Million/year  rather than getting most of them excited, just scares the hell out of them.

Most people don’t even come close to $50 K/year and they have to bust their asses to do that. Throw that at them and they’ll just know they CAN’T DO THAT…. whatever it is. That’s no way to go about building relationships.

Enter The Internet and Goodbye Relationship Building

Then along comes the World Wide Web. And everything changes.

No longer is the focus on real down to earth people to people business and building relationships. Now the magic method and secret sauce is an “instant success kit” that allows anyone to do away with wasting time talking to people.

They come in myriad varieties but all promise effortless, painless and fast riches. Anyone can do it! If you can read, use Microsoft Word and cut and paste…. You too can be rich.

Now throw in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and all manner of Social Media outlets and if your head isn’t spinning it’s because you died and haven’t figure it out yet.

The Internet, Greed and the “Three Clicks to a Fortune” crowd have combined to screw up the home business space Big Time. It’s almost impossible to tell a legitimate product or opportunity from a slick scam. If you’re looking for a legitimate business to run from home, it’s a challenge.

There is ZERO trust.

Back to the Basics

So let’s get back to basics. Because the fundamentals have NOT changed. Understand you need skills to succeed at a legitimate business from home.

Marketing skills and training. You need to talk to people, get to know them. Establish real trust and build relationships that are mutually beneficial; true masterminds.

The great advantage of the Internet and communication tools we have today is building trust at great distance is much easier than it was 10 or 15 years ago. No messenger pigeons needed.

But we do have to talk to people. There’s nothing that will substitute for a face to face chat. You can start with the emails but to really build business relationships you need more. Email just won’t cut it.

Now if you’re bent on the Granddaddy of relationships businesses- that is network marketing, forget about the traditional way of doing that. I know a better way but I prefer not to go there now. So check out the alternative below.
